Matt Hughes is a full-time professional running coach at Running Goals. As Head Coach since 2017, he is responsible for planning and delivering a variety of different training sessions to his runners every week.
During this time he has helped runners of all ages and abilities to improve their personal best times and has successfully worked with over 240 athletes in the past 7 years.
He is also a very competitive athlete himself specialising in 1500m, 3000m and 5000m.
He’s here this week to help you learn more about your training and how you can improve your speed and fitness!
He’ll be delivering 2 sessions every morning with 3 types of sessions available.

Session Details

•    Each session is split by ability: Advanced (Faster than 24 minutes for 5k) and Improver (Slower than 24 minutes for 5k).

•    Please ensure you attend the correct ability group, as these sessions have been designed to suit your fitness level (both in terms of distance and speed).

•    Each session is split into one of 3 categories: Speed, Speed Endurance and Endurance. By doing a hard workout every other day, you have the option to do 1 session of each category type (Plan A or Plan B).

•    You also have the option to pick just 1 category type. For example, if you’re a sprinter you may wish to only work hard during the Speed sessions on Sunday and Wednesday. You’re welcome to attend the other days as easy run days (Plan C).

•    Each 1 hour session includes a warm up jog, 15 minutes of technique drills, the hard part of the workout and a cool down jog.

Plan your Week:

•    Feel free to attend every one of our running sessions, but try following Plan A or Plan B from our timetable (always alternate easy & hard run days, don’t do 2 hard workouts 2 days in a row).

•    On your easy run days, still join in with the group but skip the hard bits. Join in with the warm up jog, technique drills & cool down jog and just easy run with the coach.

•    Then come again the next day for your next hard workout (eg Plan A or Plan B).
